TSLM-JVS FIRST WEEK 26

Monday, March 6th, 2017

PROJECT:
  • Diferencias y similitudes culturales.
  • Alebrijes por la paz.

Propósito del año: No produzco basura / Genero paz y bienestar (KiVa).

Daily Routine:

  • Kids put their material in the correct place and take out homework and pencil case to be ready (10 minutes).
  • We say good morning, say the date, and talk about the weather. (5 minutes)
  • We do brain gym and teacher communicates the objective of the day.
  • Attendance report (5 minutes)

  • Number dictation (5 minutes)

ACADEMIC CONTENT:

OBJECTIVE: Kids see good things in themselves and in other people.

FINAL PRODUCT: A board with good things about kids written on it.

EVALUATION:
  • Kids follow instructions carefully.
  • Kids identify good things in themselves.
  • Kids identify good things in other people.
  • Kids use conventional English spelling of common words.

RESOURCES: A big sheet of paper, post its, colors, flower shaped pieces of paper, glue and tape.

Activities:
  1. Teacher identifies a “hot seat” at each table in the classroom, so kids take turns to sit on the chair and speak.
  2. Kids talk in small groups about an event or situation when s/he felt s/he was good at something or when s/he was complimented on something.
  3. When kid on the “hot seat” finishes, the rest of the kids at that table will say a good thing about her/him.
  4. Each kid will take a piece of paper and write a good thing about themselves on it.
  5. Kids take turns to paste the piece of paper on a big sheet of paper with glue or tape.
  6. Kids get a flower shaped piece of paper and attach it on a classmate’s back (each kid must have only one piece of paper on her/his back).
  7. Kids write nice and good things about each other on these pieces of paper.
  8. Teacher must prepare a new big sheet of paper with kids’ names on it.
  9. Kids look for their names on the new sheet of paper and paste the piece of paper that was on his/her back.
  10. Kids take time to read the papers.
  11. Teacher comment with kids how it felt to receive compliments.
  12. Kids notice with teacher’s help, that we are different and difference is richness.
TIME: 60 MINUTES.
HOMEWORK:
  1. Bring a postal photo of yourself.
  2. Write singular and plural nouns on page 72 unit 4.
  3. Read in English aloud.

FINAL PRODUCT: Kids identify how to encourage themselves to accomplish a goal.

EVALUATION:
  • Kids make and answer questions about the story they read.
  • Kids show appropriate vocabulary with their classmates during the session.
  • Kids listen carefully the story and stay focus on it.

RESOURCES: Visualization exercise lesson 4 Kiva manual, page 66, sheets of paper, markers.

Activities:
  1. Teacher introduces the topic as a second part of the last Monday’s activity, when we were saying good things about ourselves and also about other people.
  2. Kids make themselves comfortable, they may rest their heads on the table if they like, and close their eyes.
  3. Teacher reads the text on page 66 of Kiva Manual, level 1.
  4. Kids must keep focus on the text. The text does not have images because they must visualize the story.
  5. Kids illustrate on a sheet of paper what they visualized as they heard the text.
  6. Kids write on the reverse the date, name and the good things they told about themselves yesterday.
  7. Kids discuss in small groups how thinking good things about themselves encourage them to accomplish new goals.
  8. Teacher projects kiva game 1 on the board, so everyone can watch and play.
TIME: 60 MINUTES.
HOMEWORK:
  1. Get in Kivs website and play the game level 1.
  2. Read pages 70 and 71 and answer page 73 of unit 73.

TOPIC: Subtractions.

ACADEMIC CONTENTS:
  • Numbers

OBJECTIVE: Kids use strategies for basic subtraction.

FINAL PRODUCT: Kids describe the strategy used for basic subtraction facts to 18.

EVALUATION:
  • Kids counts backwards from 20 to 1.
  • Kids share tokens with their classmates.
  • Kids describe strategies for basic subtraction.

RESOURCES: Tokens, notebook, chalks, playground, dices.

Activities:
  1. Kids go to the playground with their teacher.
  2. Teacher traces 4 number lines on the floor from 0 to 10.
  3. Teacher divides the class in small groups.
  4. Kids jump taking turns in the number lines forwards and backwards.
  5. Kids should explain how counting backwards and subtraction are related.
  6. Kids sit down on the floor, making 4 big circles.
  7. Kids take turns  throw a dice in each circle, the number up will be subtracted to a given number (no greater than 20).
  8. In case that the kids can't subtract, s/he may jump in the number line and count backwards.
  9. Kids go back to the classroom and take their books and work on math pages, unit 4.
  10. Kids may have tokens to take apart and find the difference.
  11. During the session kids may have trouble to share the tokens, so they must find a solution and share with the class.
TIME: 50 MINUTES.
HOMEWROK:
1. Do page 105 of unit 4.
2. Math practice in notebook
3. Read in English aloud at least 10 minutes.

  • Kids use numbers and answer How many questions.

RESOURCES: Colors, book.

Activities:
  1. Kids count the animals and write sentences on page 38, unit 5..
  2. Kids listen to the teacher and paste the pictures in order, on page 39, unit 5.
  3. Kids work in pairs write sentences using "there is" or "there are".
  4. Kids read and draw the animals in the boxes, page 40, unit 5.
  5. Kids look at the pictures and fill in the blanks using “there is” or “there are” correctly.
  6. Kids explain when to use "there is" and "there are".
TIEMPO: 50 MINUTES.
HOMEWORK:
  1. Do page 44, unit 5.
  2. Read in English aloud.

  6. Kids take time to write sentences about animals, on page 45.
  7. Kids practice the same grammar structures on pages 47, 48 and 49.
  8. Kids shares with the group.
  9. Kids take a flash cards from the table and take a picture with the ipad.
  10. Kids post the picture on Facebook ant write the question with the answer.
